Additional information

According to our investigations, the Theologian Soup is 100% Peruvian, a traditional dish from the Liberty Department , specifically from the Moche District , for which it is known also as Moche Wedding since it is a dish served mainly in weddings.

They also call it Fiesta Soup because it is also served at baptisms and birthdays, and it is also a must-have dish on Palm Sunday.

The historian Hermógenes Sachún indicates that this dish was born in the 16th century when the first founding priests of Moche commissioned the cooks to prepare a special bread-based soup for them, as it was only consumed by theologians, they baptized it as Soup Theologian.

It also mentions that it was not until the 1650s that this soup was served to the people, as a celebration of the first official marriage in Moche, and thus it was adopted as an official dish for weddings and special occasions. In 2008, the Theologian Soup was declared a typical Moche dish.
